Incremental Wellness and Creating Healthful Habits

Most of us know that our lifestyles could use some improvement in areas such as diet, physical activity and stress management/resilience.   Making those changes in a way that lasts years or decodes is the challenge that we will take on together.

New Routines and Breaking Old Habits

We are a compilation of all our previous decisions, good and bad.  Our health is dictated to a great extent by our daily choices and routines. Sometimes we are not very good at letting go of our unhealthy behaviors and forming new healthier behaviors. Our old behaviors have become our comfort zone that we frequently go to at times of stress.  Changing those routines and creating beneficial changes in your lifestyle can drastically improve not only your lifespan but the quality of those years that you have left.

Creating Your Path to a New Lifestyle

“If you do not know where you're going, then any road will get you there.”

                                                                                                                                            -Lewis Carol

Often on January 1st, we resolve without a plan of how to get there. Unsurprisingly by February 1st, we do not succeed.  It is the old "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail" adage.  It is essential to your success not only to create a lifestyle plan for the short term but also to have that plan evolve over the long term into a lifestyle that you will maintain for years or decades.

Before developing a lifestyle plan, you need to understand your current habits and behaviors. You need to recognize unhealthy behaviors, obstacles, and challenges that may interfere with changing those behaviors.  Everyone is different in that they have other goals and challenges.  The more tailored a plan is to your specific needs, the more likely you'll follow through on that plan and be successful.  We have the honor of helping you create that plan and walking you through it until it becomes a natural part of your life.

Incremental Wellness

Incremental Wellness is the concept of starting at your current level of exercise, nutrition, resilience, and gradually improving your healthful habits. For example, walking around the block three times a week is better than being a couch potato.  After you are set in your habit of walking one block three times a week, then walking 2-3 blocks three times a week seems like no big deal.  Before you know it, you walk one mile three times a week, and it just seems natural.  You may notice that you are starting to feel better and want to "level up" your nutrition.  Once again, committing to one or two servings of vegetables with meals is better than no vegetables...

The longer you follow the program, the easier and more rewarding it becomes. Your new healthy lifestyle habits gradually replace the old ones to create a healthier and happier you.

Positive Reinforcement Coaching

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Or, in our case…

Does it really count if I walk a mile three times a week and there is no one there to acknowledge it?

Of course, it counts; however, getting a little pat on the back for working on our plan never hurts.  That is why our couches work with you throughout the month to help you set goals and give you that pat on the back when you are doing well.  They will also help pick you up when you fall and try to keep a stumble (temporary deviation from your plan) from a fall (stop working on your plan).

The program's educational component is set up as a group coaching model to provide the highest level of support for each person involved. There will be individual coaching opportunities within the group and one-on-one sessions, and all of the content is aimed at helping you become your self-advocate. The team and your coach will always be available to help along the way.  With our proprietary software,  we cannot only keep in touch via text, video chat, nutrition log, and questionnaires, but we can also follow your body's physiological response as you progress through the program.

Why Group Coaching?

There are so many reasons why group coaching works! We have seen that coming together in a group helps us heal faster than going the path alone. The group you will become a part of will be an amazing support community. Everyone is walking a similar path, so you can share resources, stories, challenges, and wins together. Healing in community is one of the essential elements of a healthy lifestyle.
